Unable to backup... service will not start due to a logon error.

system was working fine until 2-3 weeks ago. nothing changed- then kaboom-

when i try to run a backup i get an error about the backup exec services not running.

i try to stop then restart- just restart- reboot- close and open the program-  and still no backups.

when i try to restart services i get an error as follows-

service did not start due to a logon failure.

and another that says-

the dependency service or group failed to start.

that's it- no error codes or number's.

i have also reset the credentials etc... inthe program as well as with the .exe utility.

i have searched all over the net and not found an exactly similar situation as mine.

any ideas would be much appreciated. going on 2 weeks with no backups and i don't like that.

thanks-

is this a common issue?

so what would be my next option to try out....

a reinstall of software? what would cause this?

how do the credentials play into this?  i have reset them to the administrator login. that shoudl be the ultimate level of access correct?

is there anything i can do to make this topic more interesting to answer?

thanks-

look for the login accts for backup exec services: are they valid logins?

This mostly the cause for your problem.

please forgive my ignorance but where might i find the login accounts for the services?

is that credential related? i have reset the credentials several times to match the current admin login.

was that my first mistake?

thank you so much for your reply- i was starting to wonder if i might hear anything...

Click Start, Run.  Type services.msc then hit Enter.

Look for the services beginning with Backup Exec ...

o.k.- per the instructions-

i found several backup exec services running fine- 2 were not.

the backup exec job engine

the backup exec remote agent for windows server

all of the services are set to automatic start, they are all loggin on under the .\administrator logon with the correct password. but those 2 services will not start.

shoudl they be set as a local service rather than logging on?

thanks again-

this is weird, local admin should be able to start the services.

try to create a domain acct, add it into local admin group on the server.  Log into the server using the new acct, set the services to start with this login and restart them all.

i will do that...

the complicating factor is that i am accessing the server over a remote desktop connection- not sure if that's an issue...

i have to leave the office right now but i will do that and report my results tomorow morning or later tonight if i get back in here.

thanks again for the time and help, it is much appreciated.

I always manage backup via RDP, no problem due to RDP.
