Upgrade servers from 10d to 10d with CPS

I currently have 1 server with BE 10d and 3 with the BE Agent.

I want to upgrade them all to use CPS. So I need CPS for the server and 3 CPA licenses.

Do I have to purchase full versions of the software or is there an upgrade area somewhere (that I can't seem to find). And how much does it cost for just the upgrades.

Currently it is $755 for 10d with CPS and I assume 1 CPA(I already bought 10d a while ago). It is also 280 per CPA agent.

Depending on your situation, you could refer to the following document:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/281313

And you could always contact the sales department regarding costs, in the following link:

Thanks for that info.

It doesn't say if I can upgrade my normal BE agents to the CP agents. I assume I need to purchase them in addition?

Another question is what the approximate disk space overhead is for CPS. It gives the system requirements but does not approximate what I'll need to save all of these "versions". I am going to be backing up 3 servers with 1TB each. With default CPS settings what would people approximate I'll need on the protection server.

Also can my current backup server (connected to my tape library) be the protection server with CPS running? The model on the CPS admin guide has a server just for the protection server connected to the server running the tape backups. That would make me buy another server.

Last question, I promise. The CPS Admin Guide states that every server with the CPS Protection Agent (which is the part on the file server I think) needs BE 10d installed. My current file servers only have the agent. Would I have to purchase the full BE 10d for each server? Or is CPS Protection Agent different than the CP Agent.

Hello,

Please see the technote regarding the Backup Exec Continuous Protection Server Minimum System Requirements & Supported Operating Systems

http://support.veritas.com/docs/277838

the protection server can be the BE server please use smart link in this case please see the technote:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/277858

If we have understood your last question correctly you want to know whether it is neccessary to install BE 10d on business server.

We would like to inform you that it is not neccessary to install BE 10d.

Thanks,

That technote is very good but doesn't answer my question, I don't know if a technote will. It's more "real-world".

Journals: Dynamic changes between backups. 10GB
Indexes: Index of snapshots. 1GB or more

But it doesn't state how much data that is backing up.

What size would the snapshots volume be? 100% of the size of all of the servers I'm backing up? Also if I have 3TB I'm protecting does anyone have any experience of how large the other volumes should be?

This is with CPS working with the web-based retrieve option restoring multiple versions, mainly with default settings.

Thanks

Hello,

You can refer the CPS admin guide for more information:

Actually in my earlier posts it does state I was getting my information from the Admin Guide. The Admin Guide is just all the technotes in a PDF file it appears.

Hello,

Do you mean to say that the index of the snapshots itself if 1GB or more?Snapshots are volume-based, thus, any change on the volume will be captured in the snapshot, not just the CPS data. Thus, to achieve maximum performance, you should create a volume that contains only a backup destination.

Also rememeber that when the snapshot expires, it is removed automatically. If the destination reaches the limit of its disk space, the oldest snapshot is overwritten by new snapshots.Snapshots can be stored up to a limit determined by the underlying snapshot technology. For most installations, this limit will be approximately 64 snapshots per destination.(due to MS limitations.

In case the above information still does not help, do revert with details.
