hi

We have Symantec Backup Exec 12.0 rev. and DELL Tape Autoloader PowerVault 122T.

After 2 hours backup on 3 Tapes we get this error:

Duplicate- DATAAn unknown error occurred on device "DELL 2".
V-79-57344-34029 - A hardware error occurred.

We have exchanged and formated all teapes, but it dowsn't help.

1) Install all the latest Service packs and Hotfixes for BE

2) Run tapeinst.exe to install the latest Symantec  drivers for the tapes device.

3) Make sure cleaning job is performed on regular basis.

4) Also check if any hard read write errors are being generated on the tapes.

5) Check windows event viewer for event id's like 7,9 and 11 which are related to hardware.

Depending on how old the unit is, it could just need a professional cleaning. I use autoloaders in almost every client I have, and I would say that about every three years, you have to send it out for a refurb.
