Volume Shadow Copy Service error: 12301

Hello,

can anyone help,
i get this error in the event manager then backup fails

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Writer Removable Storage Manager did not respond to a GatherWriterStatus call.
can any one help,

i have done the vssadmin writer checks and they are all come back with no errors, i have also rebuilt the database thats fine,

any one with any toher suggestions

Have performed the steps given in following document ?

is this a remote w2k3 Server backup or local server ?

Have you activated AOFO for this job ?

Are you backingup any Database ?

Update us on the same and revert for any further Query

thanks for the reply, and help you have given me,

i have gone through the tech document, and no joy.

this is a local backup on a win 2003 standard server,

i do not have the AOFO option installed and have the
"open file backup when advanced open file option is not used" option set to
"never"

Do i need to change this if so to what??,

i am only backing up WSUS, and there is a Symantec Ghost DB it skips.

the backup does run ok if it is not schedual.

Could you run a backup of the System State with ntbackup utility of Windows to isolate the issue?
