What is meant with "2. Only basic disks are supported at this time."

Hello,

I was reading the HCL for BE 2012 for the Compatibility with PowerVault MD3220. There is a mark to "2. Only basic disks are supported at this time." what do they mean with it?! basic disks?!

I had an idea and thought about to configure a Linux Server with PowerVault MD3220 and a RALUS on which could be saved on a Media Windows Server with BE 2012 on it. Now I'm confused....what is supported and what not exactly..

Basic disks are your underlying disk structure in Windows...RAID is supported as long as the volumes haven't been formated as Dynamic disks, or are RDM disks presented to VMs.

You need to check the BE 2012 SCL to verify that your version of Linux is supported.

Check below for an explanation of basic/dynamic disks & the BE 2012 SCL:

...dynamic/RDM disks are not supported for instance in a VM environment, meaning you can't back them up with the virtual agent. You'd need to use a RAWS/RALUS agent to backup the files only.

Thanks!

First of all: Thanks, for the fast responding!

So windows server would not be supported with backup exec 2012 on it, which would be connected with a PowerVault MD3220 and a RAID on it?

But what is when a second server which would have Linux distribution on it a RALUS and this one would be connected with a PowerVault MD3220 in a RAID System?! would it be compatible then?! I mean because of the new RALUS compatible or also still not?!
