Which AOFO option should I select?

In my Backup configuration I've seperated jobs by operating system type. In my server group I've got W2K3 Servers, A Dell Powervault NAS (w2kserver), and Linux boxes.


For W2k3 Servers I heard I should use Microsoft VSS. What should I use for the other server types?

Note: Automatically Select, does not work as my jobs fail with AOFO related issues.

Hi Randy,

You are right in that you should use VSS for windows 2003 systems. For Windows 2000 your best bet is to use Symantec's snapshot provider.

Normally using auto-select is smart enough to distinguish between win2000 and win2003. My guess is your linux boxes are causing the aofo issues you are experiencing. I would suggest manually choosing SSP for the linux rigs as well as for win2000 boxes.
