Which SQL to use?

Installing BE2012 on a Windows 2008 server that runs SQL Server 2008 as well.

Which method do you recommend to install BE2012?   Using the existing SQL installation,  or using BE's  SQL installation?

What are the pro's and con's of each?

Its always recommended to use BE's own inbuild SQL instance. You may install BE on a full

blown SQL server but do not host BE database with any other applications database coz

frequently there are updates that needs to be installed for BE which requries recycling of BE services

along with the SQL service. Only limitation of inbuilt SQL express instance would be the size of the 

database but its good enough for BE as the database does not grow to large extent.

Also if the existing SQL is not properly configured as per the needs to Backup Exec then there will be issues with functioning of Backup Exec.

Refer to the following technote to see such one issue

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH52258 : Backup Exec does not function properly if installed into an existing SQL instance that uses case-sensitive collation.

So it is recommended that Backup Exec should use a dedicated SQL instance.
