Why I don't see every mailbox in Exchange backup?

Hi,

I have backup of Exchange 2007 with GRT. Backup finishes successfully, but when i want to recover some mailboxes i don't see every mailbox from Exchange (I see only about 20% of mailboxes). This is only when i'm doing backup to tape. When I'm trying to do backup to disk I see every mailbox.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

If you have BE 12.5, install the following hotfix:

Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows Servers revision 2213 Hotfix 319699

-Tape based GRT backups of Exchange 2007 only shows 32 mailboxes. For more details, please refer to this document:  http://support.veritas.com/docs/315374

You have not said which version of Backup Exec you are running - some issues like this have already been addressed by the latest version and the latest hotfixes - others have to be worked around by still using tape but duplicate back to a disk location in order to do a restore.

As an example for some issues that might cause this -

1) Extended characters with accents in mailbox names - as your surname indicates that you might be from a country that uses accented characters this could be affacting you
2) Used the [ ] symbols in the display name for the mailbox
3) Having a milbox name that differs from the ExchangeLegacyDN name for the mailbox etc

In theory these issues should now be addresed in 12.5 or 2010 with latest hotfixes however if you have a new issue it will have to be researched as an active support case, not via a public forum

Thanks Dev T. It was problem with updates for Backup agent on Exchange server. Problem solved :)
