Windows 2000 server slowdown & lockup

I have a customer with a Windows Server 2000 (latest sp). We just upgraded the system from version 9 to version 10d. Since that time they have been experiencing server slow downs. At least once a day, they have to reboot the server because the system slows down to the point where the workstations loose their connectivity and the server mouse & keyboard take 3-4 minutes to respond to each movement/keystroke. We have two tape drives. One is a Seagate Travan. The other is an external HP DAT 72 USB on a USB 2 port. Any ideas? Thanks, Terry

Does the server become slow during the backup?

What backups are you taking?
What is the configuration of these servers?
