i get the following error in the event log, and the backup just stops in the middle of what it is doing. this is difficult to analyze, as it happens 'once in a while' and seems to go away after a full power down and restart.

Hello,

1. Is this is a remote backup, and what is being backed up?

2. Try a repair installation :

Title : Repairing VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.x for Windows Servers
http://support.veritas.com/docs/253199

Check if you have SP2 if not install it, might help.

Titre : Release Notes for Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers revision 4691 - Service Pack 2

Hello,

- Ensure that Remote Agent is running under Local System Account
- Update the Remote Agent after the installation of Service Pack.
Verify the results. If the issue persists, revert with debug logs. Refer the following technote to enable debug logging.

Title:
How to enable or disable "debug logging" in Backup Exec for Windows Servers
http://support.veritas.com/docs/254212

Please paste the relevant part of debug log.

Hello,

As you have already installed SP2, do not install it again.

This issue might be caused if the remote agent is not updated after applying Service pack 2

-- Verify if you have upgraded the remote agnet after applying SP2.

-- Full defrag and scan your local hard disks on this media server

-- If the issue remains unresolved generate teh debug log and paste here the portion of it.

NOTE : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answered and would be moved to answered questions pool.
