Hello

This could be possibly due to the environmental changes.Since Backup Exec services are dependent on some of the windows services and when these services do not start it is very obvious that backup exec services also will not start. So please try to find out the windows services which are not starting and try to start them.

This error may be generated if a newer version of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is required or the current version needs to be re-installed.

To resolve the issue it is recommended to update the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) to a more recent version or re-apply the current version.

we suggest you to download the latest version of MDAC v2.8 from the following link

no other service that is dependent on backup exec was stopped at the time....the backup exec agent just randomly stops responding for no apparent reason....there has to be some sort of a hotfix or patch for this?

we're on ver 9.1 rev. 4691 windows 2003 server.

I wouldn't be so confident of a hotfix.

This issue is very common this board, I haven't seen a fix that appeared to work however.

Try installing SP2 for Veritas, and run the MDAC component checker.

Hello,

What are you backing up in this job? You can additionally perform the following steps:
From tools-options-preferance tab, uncheck the option 'display progress indicators for a backup job' in case it is already checked.

Do also update on the results of the tests suggested earlier (SP 2 and MDAC latest version). If he problem persists, you an write back to the forum.

In case we do not hear from you within two business days, this post would be marked ‘assumed answered’ and would be moved to ‘answered questions’ pool.

Just on the MDAC issue.

I've seen several people recommended to install MDAC 2.8 in order to resolve issues.

Since WIndows 2003 SP1 already has MDAC 2.8 SP1, you definitely don't want to go and install MDAC 2.8.

I'm seeing a similar issue with BE 9.1 SP2 hotfix 52 on Windows 2003 (no SP1) as soon as a backup job or test run launches. Within 10 seconds the bengine quits (BE job engine), and the following appears in the Aplication Event Log.

Faulting application bengine.exe, version 9.1.4691.49, faulting module bengine.exe, version 9.1.4691.49, fault address 0x00077fdb.

This started just a few days ago with the application of a group of Microsoft patches. My MDAC is the v. 2.8 that comes with Windows 2003 Server.

Anybody have any ideas?

Hi,

Please update us on the current status of the issue and let us know if the previous posts have helped you!

You may also additionally refer the following:

If you are also backing up remote servers in the same job or if backing up databases like exchange in the job, split the backup job and review the results. This is done specifically to isolate the issue.

Just for test purpose close any third party application such as anti virus application or volume manager applications before doing the backup.

I am experiencing similar problems with Backup Exec 9.1 rev 4691 on Windows XP.

Within approximately 10 seconds of starting a backup job, the Backup Exec Job Engine crashes and logs the following to the event log:
