Hello Roger,

1. A possible reason for the above error is corruption in the msxml3.dll file.

There are two possible solutions.

1. Open the command prompt and register the above DLL again by running the following command:
C:\> regsvr32 msxml3.dll

2. If the above solution does not work, download XML 4.0 Service Pack 2 or later from the Microsoft site ( http://www.microsoft.com ) and install it

ALSO

2. To resolve this issue, verify that the latest service pack for Microsoft XML has been applied to the system.

Refer the following Microsoft articles to obtain the latest service pack for XML:

How to obtain the latest Microsoft XML 4.0 service pack
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;818409

How To Upgrade the Microsoft XML Parser
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;324460#2

Reboot the server after installing this service pack. If the issue persists perform the following:

Re-register the DLLs located in C:\Windows\System32\:

MSXML.dll, MSXML1.dll, MSXML2.dll , MSXML3.dll and MSXML4.dll

To register the same, type the following on the media server at the command prompt :

REGSVR32

Repeat this process for all the DLLs that are required to be registered. After completing this process, navigate to the Data folder under
X:\Programme files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data.

Inside the Data folder, you will see a number of XML files. Delete the ones which are old and not relevant anymore. To ease this task, sort the files within the Data folder by date and delete the older .XML files which you think wouldn't be required anymore.

NOTE : Only the files with a .XML extension may be deleted. The remaining contents of the Data folder should be left untouched.

After having performed the steps mentioned above, run a new backup job. After that completes, try opening the job log. The job log should now be correctly displayed in the HTML format.

3. Have you installed backup exec in an existiing SQL instance or have you installed a seperate MSDE database?
This issue occurs at times when backup exec has been installed in an existing SQL installation.
