Hi, I have a backup on LTO-3 tape media and would like to duplicate the tape to LTO-6 media.
both tape librarys are connected and functioning on backup exec 2012.
backup is on 000039L3, and would like to duplicate to 000024L6. When I right click on the tape backup and say: duplicate and choose the LTO6 drive, it asks me to put in 000019L3 tape in my LTO6 Library, which will not ready a LTO6 tape.
Whats the best way to do this? The server that was backed up is no longer with us.
I want to toss our LTO3 Library and convert all my tapes to LTO6.
thank you for your help.

I would run a catalog and inventory job, duplicate to disk job to get the data off the tape and then run another job to backup to the LT06 tape. see: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH187265

I was going do that as a last resort as it will lose the old server name.
Is this the only way?

Hi I added the recommendation to inventory and catalog before duplicating to disc.

You can turn on barcode rules and prevent your LTO3 tapes from being used in the LTO6 tape drive. See my article below
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/setting-barcode-rules-be-2012
I believe this will solve your problem of BE trying to read LTO3 tapes in your LTO6 tape drive. This way you do not have to duplicate to disk first.

Also if the original badckup set that you are duplicating used miore than ine tape it will of course ask for the other tape during the duplicate jobs.
Bascially duplicate jobs operate at a backup set level, not an individual tape level.
