The way Backup Exec chooses media can cause media to be "moved" or "Taken" by a media set.

When a job is run it first looks for media in its media set - if it finds no overwritable or appendable media It will then look for scratch media or new media - if it finds media there it will add it to the media set and write to it. If it fails to find any scratch or new media then it will look for any overwritable media in any media set. If it finds any it will move it to its media set and write to it. - This is the problem you are experiencing.

To avoid this make sure your overwrite protection is long enough that the tape can't be grabbed by another job. If it is overwrite protected it won't be grabbed and moved. Otherwise it could be.
