non-IDR restore on isolated server

I just wanted to share this piece of info ~ we decided to test our disaster recovery of a W2K3 server backup on a different piece of hardware not connected to our network, and not using the Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option.

Following the directions provided, everything looked good up until the very end, when we got an error on the restore because "an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent."

Repeated checking and multiple rebuilds ended up at the same error.

Solution - our default Windows install set the NIC for DHCP. When we changed this and gave it a static address (while still not conntected to the network) it enabled listening on port 10000, which allowed the application to communicate with the local agent, and complete the restore.

Just thought I'd share.

Yep. Sounds right i'm afraid.
I've had loads of issues like this.
In a lot of cases i've just had to hook the server up to the laptop with a Cat5 to get the Remote Agent running.

Well done.
