hi
we recently attched new backup library in our company , the library is HP MSL 4048 with media tapes LTO6
now , we use backup exec 2010 r3 sp4 but if you look at the media details it shows only 2.4 tb total
and if you look at media types of each tape (we have 4 inside the library there is no LTO6 media details
what i need to do and how to recognize LTO6 media tapes in the backup exec
thanks

...you need to pull it off and then put an LTO6 barcode on 1.
You might actually be limiting how BE detects that tape. It is quite possibly seeing those LTo6 tapes as LTo4 because of the incorrect label...
Thanks!

As I said many times before, 2.4Tb is the native uncompressed capacity for LTO6 tapes.

Hi,
1. Take the name of your company out of the original post...not required!
2. Do a search for tapeinst.exe. Once done, open it and run the driver wizard and install the SYmantec drivers. Then go into Device Manager and make sure the robotics shows up as "Unknown medium changer".
Post back with an update.
Thanks!

hi

i installed all the drivers by symantec and reboot the server
still no media types of LTO6 WHEN right click on the tapes
and the total size of each media is 2.4tb
now , i did a backup and restore and its ok and works fine
the only issue is with the media types , no media types for LTO6
another thing , i still using barcodes of LTO4 on LTO6 media tapes

...well if you use barcode rules then you're most likely going to confuse BE totally as to what is there. You use the barcode type for your tape. This is your issue...
Change the barcode type to the correct XXX123L6 version and your problem should be solved.
Thanks!

i am not using barcode rules

Don't worry about this. You will also find that LTO5 is not present as a mediatype. BE is able to sense the capacity of the tape and use it accordingly. You only need mediatype if you are using barcode rules, which you are not using because you are not using barcode labels.

The OP isn't using barcode rules, but he IS using LTO4 barcodes on LTO6 tapes.
Thanks!

ok
i will try to replace the barcodes on the media tapes with LTO6 barcodes
ending with L6
i will get the barcodes for LTO6 next week and will update you
thanks

so you agree that total size of 2.4 TB is good and the right size of the LTO6 media tapes i have ?
i also use the encryption hardware which i enable in my msl 4048
i did some tests of backups and restores on encrypted tape and it works fine and good
just want to be calm with the size of my LTO6 media tapes and their recognizing by the BE
