"rasman" errors with 10.0

I've put 10.0 on two different Windows 2000 servers and both have started getting "cannot start rasman" errors. This is symptomatic of bad drivers. I have updated to the ..._275676 version of the driver set to no avail. There are also periodic "rasctrs" errors in the error log, but I think this is due to "rasman" not starting.

Also, SNMP startup gives the error below. Also a sign of a bad driver.

"The SNMP Service is ignoring extension agent dll C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\tapealrt.dll because it is missing or misconfigured. "

The device is the Dell 122T VS80 changer/drive.

Note that everything thing was working fine on 9.1!

What action should I be taking?

Hi,

Review the following document; have you tried disabling Removable Storage service.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/275924

For test purpose, install OEM drivers and chk the results.

Do update us on the issue.

Article 275924 does list the symptoms. It suggests two solutions: (1) gethte newest VERITAS drivers or (2) shut off Removeable Storage.

I have gotten the latest drivers (as per the original message in this thread) and that didn't help any.

If I shut off Removeable Storage then there are no errors logged. But, this is NOT a good solution. The drivers from VERITAS are still the problem. Shutting off Removeable Storage just masks the problem by taking away the entity looking at the drivers! Sarcasm: If I shut off error logging I'd not see any errors either.

Note: I also used "tapeinst.exe" to turn off VERITAS's drivers and there's no issues/errors with the standard drivers and Removeable Storage running. So, it really is the VERITAS drivers.

Can I expect VERITAS to deliver drivers that play well with all of Windows 2000?

Kindly refer the following technote information as well.

a) What is Removable Storage?
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/192880.htm

b) How to disable Removable Storage for troubleshooting purposes http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/231679.htm

As you have mentioned that by disabling Removable storage service, the tape functions properly.

We would also like to mention you that device drives for Windows 2000 are compatible and you may obtain it from the technote link given below.

Uninstall the existing device drivers and reinstall the latest Veritas drivers. Run tapeinst.exe to install Veritas driver.
"TAPEINST.EXE" is located in the directory x:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT (TAPEINST.EXE" is an automated installation application for installing tape device drivers )

We hope this helps. . Let us know if the problem still exists and revert back with the error message.

I too am having a whole bevy of problems, along with RASMAN, I am getting Perflib, Remote Access Connection Manager, and rasctrs

These errors appear in the evnt logs and log them every minute. Simply turing off services will not fix our problem, it's a quick fix.

I need something that will resolve these errors without modifying the registry, settings or anything else.

Please assist!
