sp3 - Is it just a repackaging of SP2 & hotfixes?

What is new in sp3? It is unclear to me. If I have already applied sp2 and all applicable hotfixes, do I need it?

AFAIK, there is no SP3. The latest service pack is SP2, dated 5/26/2005

Where did you see/hear that a new SP was available?

I have already read the supplementary materials, and I can see that hotfix 52 is included. I was wondering if there was anything new besides the inclusion of the hotfixes that were released since sp2.

The SP3 TechNote was posted 5 Aug 05, but still doesn't show up on the software updates page.

So the only way anyone would know about it is if they payed for a Support Call and were told about it, or if they browse the forum every day?

After installing sp3, I still have product updates appearing at http://softwareupdate.veritas.com/. Does the service pack not include these hotfixes dated prior to the sp release?

Amruta_Bhide

Hello,
The SP 3 Includes most of the Hotfixes released after the SP 2. It does not include anything other than the previous Hotfixes. But it may Exclude some of the Hotfixes released after SP 2

Hope that answers your Querry.

Does SP3 include the changes in SP1 & SP2? Or do they need to be installed as well?

Yeah...

the update page seems buggy...

for me it lists available updates as::

- 9.1.4691 Hotfix 51 even if SP3 ETrack: 371036 says it's fixed.
- 9.1.4691 Hotfix 47 even if SP3 ETrack: 73477, 212882, 261652, 289521, 309163 says it's fixed.
- 9.1.4691 SP2 and I have SP3 installed (had SP2 before)
- 9.1.4691 Hotfix 50 even if SP3 ETrack: 333377 says it's fixed.

So all patches seems to be in SP3

Can you please fix the updates page...

I am posting this question again, because I do not think Veritas looks at it again unless a reply is received from the original author of the thread.

Does SP3 include the changes in SP1 & SP2? Or do they need to be installed as well?

After installing Service Pack 3, the Update Page lists hotfixes 47, 50, 51 and 52 as available updates. It also lists Service Pack 2 as available to install. I installed these all prior to Service Pack 3. Do I need to install them again?

I agree with all of the concerns in this thread because I am seeing the same issues. Because of the recent security problems, I need to know for sure if SP3 includes SP2 & HF52 so that I know our systems are fully patched. There is no mention in the SP3 release document as to what it contains and both SP2 & HF52 show when running Veritas Update after the installation of SP3.

Ken_Putnam

If you compare the "What has changed" listings of files and versions manually (from the two TechNotes), you see that SP3 contains files that are either the same version or newer than the same files in HotFix 52

But I agree, the documentation in the SP TechNote is not clear at all as to what is or is not included. they just list the Track Number, not the HotFix that "fixed" it

Are you listening for the next SP, Veritas?

Has there been a response to this question?

SP3 does include all previous SPs and most Hotfixes available prior to the Release of the SP

Hello All,
We apologise for the delay in posting this reply. The service Pack 3 for BE9.1 does include all previous hotfixes and Sp1 and 2 . So as state in the technote :http://support.veritas.com/docs/278302,
This service pack can only be applied to the following version of Backup Exec for Windows Servers:

Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers revision 4691
Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers revision 4691.1
Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers revision 4691.2

This response still does not accurately answer our questions. We have read the technote with the SP3 release and it does not state "does include all previous hotfixes and Sp1 and 2", it states "contains a collection of hotfixes".

The fact that running Veritas Update after applying SP3 shows many hotfixes are still needed, including SP2 & HF52, is very confusing and we need a firm answer, along with Veritas Update getting fixed.

Additionally, the Security Vulnerabilities technote has not been updated to reflect SP3 either, so it adds to the confusion.

If we folllow these docs and Veritas Update, it would seem as though we still need to apply SP2 & HF52 after SP3 is already installed.

Someone from Veritas please clear up this issue and fix the wording of the technotes and Veritas Update!

Hello,

As stated in our previous reply, BE v9.1 SP3 includes all the changes in SP1 and SP2.If you have installed SP3 , then it is not required to install SP1 and SP2 again.

As the Veritas Update Page lists hotfixes 47, 50, 51 and 52 as available updates and it also lists Service Pack 2 as available to install, evenif SP3 has installed, please note that it is an issue occured in Backup Exec.
And we are working on this issue.

You can subscribe to our "Email notification service" so that you will get an update about this issue.

VERITAS E-mail Notification Service"

We hope this will clarify your doubt.

It does answer my questions as long as you are saying that Hotfixes 47, 50, 51, and 52 are all included in SP3 also, and that all that is needed to alleviate the security concerns is SP3.

Please update the security advisories to reflect the fact that only SP3 is now needed, not SP2 + HF52.
