I have a customer who is having Enterprise Vault 9.0.1 implemented. The customer would like to setup e-discovery for Exchange 8.0.
What are the pre-requisites for E-Discovery? Is Exchange Journal Arhciving mandatory for E-Discovery?

This forum is for Enterprise Vault Discovery Accelerator, not the inbuilt M$ eDiscovery tool.

For Discovery Accelerator you would require Enterprise Vault to be installed as well as DA

As Marvin said, you would need Discovery Accelerator installed.  Journaling is not a requirement necessarily, but it depends on your particular business needs.  DA (Discovery Accelerator) is able to search mailbox archives as well as journal archives, file system archives and sharepoint archives.

Searching mailbox archives will only get you whats in the archive, so, if you need to capture all email without the chance of it being deleted by the user before it has a chance to be archived you will most likely want to use journaling.
