EV 8.0.4 - The XML page cannot be displayed

one of my clients installed all of the microsoft hotfixes on the EV server as well as upgrading to IE 8.

since then - all the search pages for all the users are giving the same thing - the XML page cannot be displayed.

when going to search.asp or archiveexplorerUI.asp I get the same the page cannot be displayed.

from outlook you get the XML error.

Grom the server itself - when browsing from the IIS to the selected pages - I get the script errors....

any ideas?

thanks,

sarah.

due to lack of time - we re-installed the binaries of the EV over the existing one.

after server restart, all things are working again.

thanks.

What is the exact version of EV you are using ?

Do you see any errors in the eventlog?

no errors at all in the event logs.

the server is doing it's work fine, archive restore etc, just the search pages got messed up.

you can see it in the pictures attached to my original post.

Is there a list somewhere on unsupported microsoft hotfixes with EV?

As far as I know there is no such a list. There is only the compatibility guide:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH38537

Is your server rebooted after applying the updates ?

Try this:

On the EV Server use the REGSVR32 command line tool to register the following .dll:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\scrrun.dll

Do you know which update specifically it was? Open a case with Symantec, they have had XML issues back in EV7 when an MS borked broke AE Symantec also do not certify against individual hotfixes, only service packs
