Hi All. We get the following error after (10.0.1 -> 10.0.4) upgrade when browsing share in file server with http. with a workstation the error message is more vague. Only archived files will not open. Everything else works fine.
We needed to create simple http browsing option on IIS because the folder navigation over UNC path names is slow behind slow connections. Latencies and packet loss affects less with http.
Any ideas? Cheers.

Are the archived files placeholders or internet links?
Are there any errors in the Event log on the file server?
Was the FSA agent on the file server upgraded?

Placeholders.
No.
Yes.

Are you using pass-through recall?
If you run fltmc from a command prompt on the file server does it show that FileScreenFilter and EvFilter are running?
Does it work via UNC at all? If not, then it would show that it is possibly a filter driver or placeholder service issue.

patrick, is it even a method that Symc even supports? opening items gotten from a website?

Yes, pass-through recall.
C:\Windows\system32>fltmc
Filter Name Num Instances Altitude Frame ------------------------------ ------------- ------------ ----- vsepflt 16 328200 0 FileScreenFilter 15 260800 0 EvFilter 15 185100 0 luafv 1 135000 0
I don't know is it a supported browsing method nowadays. It worked fine with 10.0.1.

Not something that I have seen configured before.
Are you able to test via UNC or by Remote Desktop to the file server itself? Just want to confirm it works at that level. Possilby, a Dtrace of the placeholderservice during a restart to see if it comes up properly.

All files are nicely recalled via UNC, and after recall they work with http too. Problem is just with archived files with http.
Have to make a dtrace when I got some time.

Wondering if the IIS request makes it to the Dtrace...my thought is that it does not. Maybe and issue with the credetials on the virtual directory or app pool in IIS.

As you thought, IIS request will not make it to the dtrace log. IIS credential and settings should be fine, because I can browse and open normal files through http. I just want to know if anyone can still make IIS/http recall files through placeholders after 10.0.4 upgrade.

I have not seen this configuration before and running some tests in a lab I am unable to get it to work in 10.0.1 or 10.0.4. The exact error you are seeing is returned. I did find some information that IIS 7.5 does not work well with reparse points.
This is most likely a question for Microsoft to confirm. This may be something that could be tried- http://www.iis.net/learn/install/installing-publishing-technologies/installing-and-configuring-webda...

Yea I can't be 100% sure if it worked with earlier versions. I got 1st case about it after 10.0.4 upgrade, and ppl have been using it for years since EV 8.0. Will try with webdav.

It seems to work with IIS 6 on 2003.

I created an official case and got a reply that EV placeholder service does not understand the http-protocol anymore. Case closed, ty.
