EV user query

GTK
Level 6

Hi can anyone answer the following?

what is the quickest way to check if a user is enabled for EV? is it via SQL query and the VAC?

it would be great if a user could just click a button in outlook that tells them if they are enabled or disabled and what provisioning group they are in.

please dont say "users should know they are EV enabled by checking the icons in outlook". Some of the users in our place ar enot that IT savvy

thanks

You'll be surprised :)

If you run on EV10, you get a very nice Archiving report, for both scheduled or manual runs. In HTML format. It looks really cool.

Look at this post:

The actual report is very similar. It is in EV10SP2

For an admin, the easiest check in the VAC is to Rightclick on the Targets\Exchange, then select "display policies assigned to mailboxes". enter the name of a user. If enabled, he should show there with relevant information.

Otherwise, use the 'enable mailbox' feature, and select the Exchange server, then select List all available mailboxes. Select 'New Mailboxes Only', you should see New, not yet enabled mailboxes.

For a user, provided the EV-client is installed, I say: check icon in Outlook :)

From SQL, you could check the ExchangeMailboxEntry table in the Directory database. Or perhaps the Provisioning Report.

thanks GertanA, i was afraid you would say that, i am aware of all of the above. One day symantec may design EV from an adminisrators point of view and make it much easier to administer.

I think its a good idea that users are able to see what policy is being applied. It would also help with troubleshooting, since at the moment the only detail you can see is a GUID unless a SQL query is run.

I've posted an enhancement here:

Whilst it's not 'clicking a button', depending on the client you are using, and your desktop policy settings, you can right-click on the top level of your mailbox, select 'Properties', and the 'Enterprise Vault' tab will indicate if the user has been enabled or not, along with other useful information (dependent on site/policy settings):
