Enterprise Vault 8 to 11 upgrade - Recovery steps in the event of problems

Archiving_Corru

Hi

We currently run ev8 on physical windows 2008 r2 64 bit (single server) and sql 2008.

We have the steps in place for the in-place upgrade but need steps for failback to ev8 in the event of any problems.

We have approx 11TB of archive data in 28 storage groups (which have been backed up)

We no longer actively archive mail (historical storage only)

If there are any issues and we have to go back to ev8, is it a full recovery or can we get away with restoring the SQL databases and vault binaries for the vault server or do we have to recover the vaults too?

Any help greatfully appreciated

Rick

Hello Rick,

An upgrade only touches the databases (and binaries obviously). In case an upgrade fails, you need to restore the databases, reinstall the version of EV for which the restored databases are, and off you go. Archived data, nor index data is altered by the upgrade.

Most importantly is therefore to have a good working backup of your SQL databases. Be sure you are able to restore them. (you might want to try a restore to a different SQL server as test)

Hi, thanks very much for the response.

that is what I thought with regards to recovery, thanks for confirming this.

Kind regards
