Enterprise Vault and NetBackup

All,

I am a regular contributor/question asker in the NetBackup forum, and rarely venture out of that safeplace :)  However we now have a requirement to back up EV with NetBackup, and I've poured over tons of documentation from Symantec.

Now I would like to ask the question of how it is being backed up in the real world.  So is there anyone out there using NBU to back up Enterprise Vault?  And if so what are the methods that you are using to back up all of the many components of enterprise vault?  Any hurdles/ptifalls that we should know about when it comes time to restore an EV envorinment?

Thanks,

Jason

egads, i think you could write a book about this, honestly though if you have a Business Critical contract with symantec, i'd suggest seeing if you can get an EV Assurance done (project between NBU and EV BCE's to help create efficient backup and restoration policies specifically for EV)

Plus theres the NBU EV agents as well that make things a lot more simple.

Good starting place for best practice on backing up EV can be found here:

The NBU + EV Agent stuff can be found here:

What I would suggest against at all costs due to the headaches it causes for everyone is NOT to use NetBackup as tertiary storage and migrate EV CAB files to tape, its a one way road, is slow and whilst not technically causing any issues, it can be an administrative nightmare

is to just be able to recover the EV environment should it go down.  We're not going to use NBU as an intermediary.

I'll mark as a solution since you've given me some good reading, but I may come back and visit with questions :)

Do you still have to use cmdlets to put the EV components in archive/backup mode?  Or does the agent take care of that automatically?
