Hi Guys,

I have a question as the Latest SOP regarding Pre\Post backup scripts ive read contradicts what ive just read here:http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH35932

We are using Arcserve not BackupExec or netbackup but i cant find if you are running a version later than 8.0 its still ok to bin these reg keys an the whole pre\post backup scripts.

Cany anyone confirm if its safe to just let Arcserve proceed without the scripts running.

Regards

Bill

the backup procedure is changed from version 8.0 so you dont need to have this registry keys created.

you may read the following article

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/changes-backup-procedures-enterprise-vault-8

to backup Ev you need to have Ev in backup mode so there is no new data archvied to the vault store

refer the following guide

You can use those keys if you wanted to, but you have to restart the Services, and you will receive a warning that you're using legacy keys, and at somepoint they will be removed entirely from the product.

With the Powershell backup scripts, you don't have to restart the services, meaning that you won't necessarily interrupt things like Discovery Accelerator searches and what not.

But as Rahul noted, you definitely should use the backup scripts otherwise you will have inconsistent backups

Very helpful, ive read through what you suggested.

I will now be running this script as part of the pre backup process

powershell -psconsolefile "C:\Program Files\Enterprise

Vault\EVShell.psc1" -command "& {set-vaultstorebackupmode -name

'Express Vault Store Group' -evservername server1 -evobjecttype

vaultstoregroup}"

I do have 1 question though, we are running 9.0.4 on a server Win2003 SP2, and it doesnt have Windows Powershell on it, do i need to install it or is this script enough? - i see it does call the EVShell.ps1 but thought i should ask just in case!

Thanking you!

You will definitely need Powershell installed, i'm surprised to be honest it even let you install EV without Powershell being present

In addition, i presume i dont need to include anything extra for the index locations? This will be enough as its setting the entire VSGs into backup mode....

Thanks for your help gents.

You will need to do index locations as well.
