File Archiving With Placeholder Shortcuts

Please help - we have an issue whereby we can archive files, the placeholder is created and then when the file is simply opened and closed again, the placeholder reverts back to the original document. This does not seem like normal behaviour, I was expecting the file to remain as a placeholder since I made no changes to it. What am I doing wrong?

Our Enterprise Vault Server is a single win2k3 sp1 server with EV6sp2

That is expected behaviour. It will revert back to a placeholder after a bit, at the lastest when the service runs next. It stays for a bit because the thinking is you looked at the file once, you might come right back to it, so it hangs around so it will not have to restore again. All is OK! :)
