How to view an archived item in Outlook and not a browser?

I may have missed this in the documentation but can someone tell me how I can get the users to view archived emails within Outlook and not their browser?

Each time a user opens an archived email it opens in a browser and then they have to click on the "download" Vault icon in order for it to be viewed in Outlook.  I'd like to eliminate the browser step.

If i recall of the top of my head:

Edit or create WebApp.ini within the Enterprise Vault directory

and set "ViewMessage_Format"

values
  • WEB (default). Display the item in a browser window.
  • MSG. Use Outlook to display the item. (Not available on Mac clients.)
  • ASK. Prompt the user for the format to use. (Not available on Mac clients.
Just remember this affects the following:
  • Links in universal shortcuts
  • Items that are opened in Archive Explorer
So I guess you want to add ViewMessage_Format=MSG to WebApp.ini

Hi jlg,

Are you referring to when a user clicks on a universal shortcut? "click here to view the archived item" or when double clicking the shortcut?

When they click on the universal shortcut, the link that says "View the original item"...the email opens up in a browser.

This message has been archived. View the original item
