Migrating exisiting EV to a new EV server with new everything

Greetings,

Our exisiting EV1 server (EV1) is being transitioned from one location to another. EV1 is being decommisioned, it's EV6.0 with SP3 talking to a separate SQL server. The new EV server (EV2), same version but SQL will be on it as well.

EV2 will have a new Exch server to connect to. a new name and effectively a new vault site.
So here's how I would think it will proceed:
- Install EV, SQL and Prereqs on EV2
- Configure new SQL database on EV2
- Configure EV2 as a separate site with a new vault partition from the exisiting EV site
- Install EV owa extensions on new Exch svr
- Delete all existing shorcuts in users mailboxes
- Export all mailboxes to PST (will the 2Gb limit apply here?)
- Import all extracted psts to EV, effectively creating new shortcuts in users mailboxes

Another way I thought could be done and less of an impact would be to
- Install SQL on a new server
- Restore the EV databases to the new SQL server
- Point EV to the new SQL server
- Add new Exch svr to archive
- Perform a full backup of EV1
- Recover EV1 to the new server hardware using the same server name
- Install EV owa extensions on new Exch svr

Both have disadvantages;
The first scenario is that it will take time to extract mailboxes and import them
The second scenario will be that the EV server will be offline for the recovery

Has any one out there performed such a task if so how did you go about it? TIA

Regards

I think the best approach to use is to take the DR route which is well documented in the Admin guide. There is a fair amount of SQL scripting but this is documented you just have to be careful. There are physical name dependencies for MSMQ so it is important to make sure these are modified correctly.
