Migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010

Our organization is planning a migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchnage 2010. We are currently running Enterprise Vault 9.0. When I install my 2010 CAS servers should I expect any issues with Enterrpise Vault? What needs to be done to maintain continuity? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Here is a very detailed migration plan for nearly the same thing you are looking at. You might want to consider an upgrade to the latest EV before the migration.

Have a look at the setting up exchange archiving guide, that will be a start, but essentially ....

- Vault Service Account will need a mailbox, and it'll need to be an Exchange 2010 server [if I assume you intend to have Exchange 2010 mailboxes too?]

- Vault Service Account needs permissions PowerShell script run

- Vault Service Account needs Throttling PowerShell script run

- EV OWA Extensions need installing on the CAS(es)

Pretty much it, at a high level.

If your users use EV OWA extensions to access archived email from OWA, then you need to install the extensions on the 2010 CAS servers as well. If you have all your mailboxes in 2007, you shouldn't have any issues. However, if you start moving the mailboxes to 2010, then you need to add the Exchange 2010 mailbox server to the VAC and that would involve setting permissions with the PS scripts, create system mailboxes, new archiving tasks, add some registry keys such as SynchInMigrationMode, etc.
