Windows 7 64-bit/Windows Search/EV9SP1 Add-in

Is Windows Search integration for Vault Cache supported on Windows 7 64-bit OS with EV9SP1 Add-in? Compatibility chart is vague or silent on this.

Below are some relevant lines from a client trace showing the integration being disabled, even though we have it set to force in the policy.

Thank you.

I now see why the Comp Guide is silent. Win 7 64-bit is still pending certification!? Any updates on the progress and what the plan is for Windows Search on this platform?

Here is a note from the compatibility guide

Note: Enterprise Vault 8.0 supports WDS and WS only on 32-bit versions of

Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Support for WS on Windows 7

32-bit requires Enterprise Vault 8.0 SP4 or later.

I guess same applies to version 9.0 , it only works with 32 bit OS

I guess this would be fixed in Ev 9.0 sp2 but not sure and would need to get some confirmation on the same .

Right now the only way to get WDS working on a pure x64 desktop is with Outlook 2010 x64 installed. The fix to make x64 WDS work when you have 32-bit Outlook is extremely complex so I wouldn't expect to see it any time soon if at all. I would raise the requirement through your account manager if you have a strong desire to have 32-bit Outlook working with x64 WDS

Looks like we're waiting for a 64-bit version of the client for Vault Cache integration with Windows Search support.

Can Symantec give an update on Windows 7 64-bit EV Add-in progress, and its expected support for Vault Cache/Windows Search integration? Is this still the expected path to support? Or will the x86 Add-in eventually support it on Win7 64-bit. Can't find any additional postings or articles updating this. Thank you.

The 9.0.1 addin is 64 bit and 32 bit... if you install it against 64 bit Office 2010, then it's a 64 bit add-in, and provided that's all on Windows 7 x64, then I believe WDS will all work nicely.

What doesn't work is :-

32 bit Office

64 bit Windows

WDS can't cope with that difference.

OK, thanks for the updates. I will test the config you descirbed as supported. However, here's what the EV901 readme states:

Vault Caches are not indexed in 64-bit Windows [Ref E1316344]

WDS and WS do not index the contents of Vault Caches on computers that are running the 64-bit versions of Windows.

Is this still expected to be a problem?

Windows 7 64-bit

Office 2010 64-bit

EV901 Add-in http only

"Symantec Vault Cache"  now appears in the Indexing Options config panel. In Outlook Search - "Locations to Search" the Vault is selected, but searches do not return any hits from the Vault cache.

Anything else to configure, or are we hitting the bug in the etrack above? Is this supposed  to be supported?

After giving it few more minutes, the Virtual Vault is returning hits - when the search term appears in the metadata. However, when the search term is in the body or attachment, it is not returning hits. Evidently then, the Vault Cache content is not getting indexed. (The customer is storing full content in vault cache).

Vault Cache content is not being indexed by Windows Search.

Is the etrack referenced above regarding Vault Cache content indexing still pending resolution?

Are there any workarounds?

Thanks.
