Seems Office 2013 Service Pack 1 has resolved my issue.

What excatly are you trying to get working ?
Is it the EV Outlook add-in which is not working ? In that case what version of Outlook are you running ?

EDIT
As of now Win 8.1 as Exchange Archiving client is not supported by EV.(Refer to Pg#53 of the
compatibility list). However Win8.1 as FSA archiving client is supported by EV 10.0.4. (Pg#70)
Below is the link for EV compatibility list

Ev 10 does support Office 2010 SP1 but the OS is not supported as if now. What is the error message you get.

No error message, it just appearsas an inactive add on despite me enabling it.

What EV client version are you using. I had the same issue with EV10sp3, but when upgraded to sp4 (and EV11beta) they work.

the client version we're using is 10.0.2.1112 is what we currently use, I'm presuming we need to upgrade our client to version 10.0.4?

10.0.4 client may be the answer for you. You don't have to upgrade the EV servers, just try the newer client. I've had to go into the COM addins and enable it after installing the sp4 version. Also, I recommend uninstalling the older version completely prior to installing the new version.

How about with Win8.1 and Outlook 2013? Latest 10.0.4 (hotfix 2) client simply refuses to load:
