I'm pretty sure it does go back to the original location in the archive, however its not going to recover the shortcut , so you're going to have to check it in Archive Explorer or Search.asp

Hello, Did you try doing a re-synch of the user/s?
Right click on the archiving task that this user/s belong and go to the "Synchronization" tab, check all the check box, and Synchronize (if it is only for one user, use the option selected mailboxes).
Then in your outlook, close it and open again you should have the icons as selected in your Desktop policy.
Thanks,
Cris.

the retention category shouldn't have an impact on whether or not the button shows up or not, however the site properties definitely will.
What i would suggest if you can is to restart the admin service, then sync a test mailbox (make sure you sync just one as opposed to just doing all, because then it will confirm that it was actually able to sync, if you do all of them, it will throw them in the A4 queue and might just get stuck)
then after that, close and restart outlook
it could be something as simple though as the button not having enough room to display, you may have a little down arrow that shows more buttons in outlook that if you press you will see others.
Another thing is if its cached mode, there are instances where the hidden message does not sync down properly, so you may need to run ScanOST.exe and fix any issues, this will force the hidden message to be downloaded properly.
Either that or the user just isn't in the right provisioning group or hasn't been provisioned yet or provisioned properly, so you may want to run provisioning, check the reports to make sure he's in the right group, restart outlook, if its not there, try syncing then re-opening outlook etc
Last but not least you may have reg key settings overriding what buttons can and cannot be seen

hi there admin service restarted, mbx re-synced i dont use cached mode its still not showing. ive run a provisioning report and the user (me) has the correct policies etc applied. it just doesnt show in the cleint. weirdly its not just the icon that doesnt show but the tools option as well. you mention reg keys. is this server or client side? could it be due to the fact that i used to belong to a different policy/provisioning group? also under the desktop policy options features section. i turned on expiry report as well and this doesnt appear either

any chance you could upload the client log? it should show in there why it isn't displaying the icon, or if it believes the icon should be displayed, it will end up being something silly i'm sure

I don't think that EV checks if the user is allowed to delete and shows the toolbar based on that.
I think the only thing EV checks to show the toolbar icon is if it is enabled in the Desktop Policy:
But as JW2 suggest, can you send us a client trace? This will sort things out.
Cheers

Michael
The settings definitely do have a difference, from the help file
Note 4 |
The menu option and toolbar button are only shown if you have selected Users can delete items from their archives in Site Properties. |
For whatever reason though, the client is not picking up that deletes are allowed

Maybe try zapping the mailbox and then re-enable

OK, the thing we are looking for is "DELETEBTNVISIBLE", which should be set to "2", but it's not there...
Can you try the following:
While in your INBOX, press & hold SHIFT + CTRL and press the EV Search button.
Then click "VaultInformation" and scroll down until you see:
Can you post this "Last modification time", and see if you find "DELETEBTNVISIBLE" on this page?
(Make sure that the it says IPM.Note.EnterpriseVault.Settings as the header)
Cheers

The only way to tell if items have been deleted but are still in the dumpster is from the properties of each Archive on the deleted items tab

This is the right answer :) We don't recreate shortcuts for items that have been restored from the Dumpster, they are simply returned to the Archive

You may want to have a look at our "Granular Restore" product, which allows self-restore as user.
