No shared storage option license installed. Symantec 5200

Trying to setup a 5200 with tapes drives that are fiber attached.  The library and tape drives are zoned and the wizard sees 1 ADIC library and 3 LTO3 tape drives, which is correct.  But when I go to configure the drives it shows a limitation on the drives (not the library mind you) which is: No shared storage option license installed.

I have installed the SSO license on the machine and it shows up as such:

  file version    = 0x05000000
  time added      = 0x4ddc2fa5 Tue May 24 22:22:29 2011
  hostname        = my5200
  product ID      = 7 NetBackup Server
  serial number   = 112887
  key version     = 0x05000000
  count           = 1
  server platform = 0 Any platform
  client platform = 0 Any platform
  server tier     = 5 NetBackup Server
  client tier     = 0 No tier
  license type    = 1 Permanent
  Site ID         = 2006 Unknown site: 2006
  Feature ID      = 75 Bare Metal Restore +
  Feature ID      = 74 Encryption +
  Feature ID      = 73 Open File Backup +
  Feature ID      = 43 Encryption (Legacy DES 56-bit) +
  Feature ID      = 42 Encryption (Legacy DES 40-bit) +
  Feature ID      = 30 Shared Storage Option +
  Feature ID      = 22 Additional clients +

I thought maybe it was a corrupt license.txt file, so I renamed and recreated the file by adding all the licenses back.  Still no joy...  Same error.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Mate,

NBU5200 has FC interfaces but at the moment you can only connect the tape devices to it just to push the data out. From what I heard Symantec is working on the fix which should be released sometime in June.

Did you install the SSO license on the NBU 5200 and the Master server?

When we set up our NBU 5200, we installed the licenses on both, and we had four NBU 5200 sharing 6 LTO4 drives.

Since the NBU 5200 were the primary storage, the tape drives were used for long term retention of data.

Hope this Helps

First of all, SSO is well supported with NetBackup 5200. No worries there.

You need to check the following.

1. From the look of it, you seem to have a NetBackup Server (Not NetBackup Enterprise Server) license. NetBackup Server license is for a single system (no media server, no SSO etc.)

2. You need "Library Based Tape Drives" license to use a library, perhaps this could be the cause.

3. Also check the license on master server.

In any case, discuss the situation with your Sales Rep. He/she will be able to assist. They may also give you an evaluation license to confirm the issue.
