Backup History

Hi

We backup our Virtual Machines (vmware) using netbackup 6.5.5. Policy details as below:
Policy type: Flashbackup-windows
Backup Selection: All Local Drives
Please see the attachment for snapshot client setting.

Problem is that I have just noticed, when trying to do a restore Netbackup History is not showing all the backups. It is showing backups for just 3 months in 2009. Anything recent is not shown.
I am trying to figure out why this is so. I know vms are being backed as virtual centre is showing that snapshots are being created etc. Netbackup is also creating images/backup files on disk staging unit.

Has anyone else had this issue. How can I resolve this?

Thanks
Mohit

Dont have an option for date selection. It just give me "Show recent backups" and "Show all backups". Both these options give same result

If the VMware backup was made with both of the following, you can restore the

entire virtual machine:

A FlashBackup-Windows policy.

The Virtual Machine Backup parameter was set to 1-FullVM or 2-Mapped

FullVM.

To restore the full virtual machine

1 Start the NetBackup Backup, Archive, and Restore interface

2 Specify the source client and destination client and type of policy:

UNIX: On the Restore Files tab, click

Windows: click Files > Specify NetBackup Machines and Policy Type.

3 Specify the following:

Server to use for backup and restores: the NetBackup master server

that directed the backup.

Source client for restores: the VMware virtual machine that was

backed up.

Destination client for restores: the VMware backup proxy server.

Policy type for restores: FlashBackup-Windows.

4 Select the type of restore:

UNIX: on the Restore Files tab, select Restore type > Virtual Machine

Backups.

Windows: click the down arrow on the option to select

Restore from Virtual Machine Backup. A restore window displays the

backups available for restore (Find attachment)

5 Select the virtual machine backup to restore.

UNIX:

On the Restore Files tab, specify the Start date and End date within

which to search for the backup. Click either of these options:

Specify root (/) in the Browse directory field and press Enter.

Click on the root folder that is displayed under Directory Structure.

I think you have taken only monthly full backup and all the backups are happend on last sat of the month.

Can u provide the screen shot for the selected dates in restore window?

The screenshot i attached earlier is the restore window. I get that when selecting "Restore from"
I dont get any option for date selecting. You are correct in saying that full monthly backups are taken but we do full weekly backups aswell.

In my previous post i have attached a screen shot of restore window. Open the attchment and you will find the date range in top right corner stating that start date and end date. Have you mentioned the time correctly.

I am afraid I dont get the same window :(
Are you using windows or Unix

Dont be afraid. Go through the following pdf. U ll get an idea...

had a look at this document and the screenshot that you attached is for unix. What I attached is for windows and that doesnt have option to select a date range. It just comes up with the list of backups that master server can see. I still cant figure out why the backups are not showing in HISTORY windows when VMs are being backed up regularly.

While selecting the restore window, it will ask u the following.

1)Source client
2)Destination Client
3)Policy type for restore
4)Date range (Start & End Date).

Your have selected the date range between Aug & Sep 09 and thats why it is showing the data's of those three months. Once you changed the date, you willl be able to see the data for all months.

Gothrough the admin guide and you will come to know where you did a mistake.

Normally how you use to do restoration if you need the data which was backed up a year ago?

I didnt see any date ranges between Aug & sep in your screenshot. But i am saying that the date range has selected between these period. Normally by default it use to show some date range.
