The offsite Tape I intended to backup onto is inside my tape drive and also in the pool created for it.

Kindly guide me on next thing to do, my os is windows 2003 server

As you have mentioned that error 96 occurs during the backup when you do have tape, Please check if the media is not suspened or frozen.

And i would suggest to check if there is any MDS allocation held in EMM which failed to release. Try the below command in master server

<Install_Path>\NetBackup\bin\admincmd\nbrbutil -dump

Check unnder MDS Allocation In EMM, If you notice the required media is listed under that; run the below command

<Install_Path>\NetBackup\bin\admincmd\nbrbutil -releaseMDS <mdsAlocationKey>

Note: <mdsAlocationKey> in below example

MDS allocations in EMM:
MdsAllocation allocationKey=1033 jobType=1 mediaKey=8000001 mediaId=ATST01 driveKey=6000001

If you are performing re-directed restore, that is restoring the data to different location, please make sure have  file "No.Restrictions" under <Install_Path>\NetBackup\db\altnames is listed in master serevr.

By default this file path is not created after NBU installation; you have to create it for re-directed restore.

Note: There should be not extentions for this file "No.Restrictions"

you said it is in your tape drive - so are you backing up to a standalone tape drive?

This sounds like you already have the tape mounted.

check in the gui that the barcode (the name you think the tape is called and that you see in the volume pool) matches the recorded media id that the tape shows.   If the recorded media id is different from the the "tape" you created and is in the volume pool then the job would say it had no tapes avail.

It seems as if you have 2 different queries in one thread/discussion? One about status 96 and another for a restore? If you don't mind - please post each query in a separate discussion?

About status 96 - please show us what you see:

From cmd, show us properties of media-id you need to use:

<install-path>\veritas\volmgr\bin\vmquery -m <media-id>

<install-path>\veritas\volmgr\bin\vmoprcmd -d

<install-path>\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd\nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid <media-id>
