In one of your FIRST posts and private email to me, I have referred you to this section in Admin Guide I:
Parts of the NetBackup catalog
See : https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/difference-between-nbu-catalog-and-emm
Which part of this section in the manual do you NOT understand????
Please also have another look at this post: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sql-anywhere-server

It's the same. We have a NBDB database which is a Sybase database.

OK.Then,What is this Sybase server?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sybase
NB_dbsrv = NetBackup Database Service. dbsrv9 is the the Sybase 9 version
NBDB is just the database name.

Here is a link that describes ASA.
http://www.isug.com/Sybase_FAQ/ASA/index.html
For NetBackup we use the database to store information about servers, storage units, devices, images and many other things.

I have read through the post.
SQL Anywhere is database software.
You can compare it with MsSQL in your environment - the dba's will first install SQL software, then create databases.
Same with NBU - SQL Anywhere database software is installed when NBU is the installed. Then NBDB database is created that is used for EMM.
But what is this ASA server?

If you still don't understand, just accept... Like you accept LIFE every day of your life without needing to understand.........

ASA is short for Adaptive Server Anywhere.
So, Sybase ASA = Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere.
See the URL in revaroo's post.

This...
(If the service won't start, edit <install_path>\NetBackupDB\conf\databases.conf and place a # at the start of the line containing "NBDB.db")
Should NOT be posted up without a full explanation of why.
It came from this TN TECH69759
Again, we have asked that you do not post bits of TNs up without giving the context of where they came from.
All we need is somone to find this post and start editing the databases.conf file because they think it will be a good idea without understanding why.

WHAT IF!!!!
Please show us your error message if you have REAL issues!!
We CANNOT help you with WHAT IF questions!
We have given you NUMEROUS references to NBU database documentation.
If you STILL don't understand, I'm afraid you never will. Just accept and let it go.
