I was told by a symantec tech that we should uninstall the existing 6.5.3 client, reboot and install 7.1. I have a few hundred clients to update so it would be much easier to just script and upgrade. I can't find any documentation that says you have to remove the existing client and I have been given not 100% correct info before. Does anybody know for sure if this is the mandatory process? I could test it but thought I would just check first.

According to the 7.1 Windows Install guide, you can direct upgrade from any 6.x or 7.0 version to 7.1

Cleanest method would probably be what was suggested, but it's certainly not the only way.
