Hi I get this error when trying to add a VM to the backup policy.
Does anybody know how to enter a hostname for the VM? This doesn't happen to all of our VMs only these 3
Netbackup 7, Windows 2008 server R2

Go to Snapshot Option, change the Client NameSelection to be VM display Name. See the picture.
I hope it can be solved your problem.

Ensure the VM is powered on.
Also ensure the VM can be looked up via DNS, both forward and recursive.

Also ensure that you have VMware tools installed AND running on the virtual machines. Or NBU wont be able to see the IPs configured for the machine and reverse lookups will fail.

Problem solved.
Chose to use VM Display name in the policy options.
