Convert Netbackup Appliance 5250 to Flex Appliance 5250.

Hi everyone,

I understand that the NetBackup Appliance 5250 is great, but it lacks WORM (Immutable). I would like to inquire if it's possible to convert the NetBackup Appliance 5250 to a Flex Appliance 5250.

Thanks,
Rick.

Hi @rformas-LOL

Yes this is possible. You will need to talk the people that sold the appliance to you so that the correct licensing is applied and the Veritas backend systems are adjusted. The particular hardware model you have should be fine to convert, but again check with the account team.

You need to understand that the conversion is a complete reimage, so any data currently in the appliance will be destroyed as part of the process.

Cheers

Hi @rformas-LOL

5250 appliance traditional/non-flex to flex conversion will be

- kind of buying a new Flex appliance 5250 + buying catman (catalog migration) services from Veritas PS as well and then

- spinning up a container instance for master & media in it for required version, same as your current Netbackup Master version.

- Getting a catman migration done, which is a Veritas PS task.

You can then make the existing 5250 non-flex as media server and continue to use it. No data will be lost.

as catman gives you 2 options :

- either decommission the source master or

- demote it to be used as media server.

Thanks
