Converting Netbackup Master Server to Virtual

Hi Admins,

 

Any one can tell me about the possobilities to convert a physical Master Server to virtual server.

Hello,

Yes, it's totally possible for you to migrate your master to a virtual master. 

A Master Server can be migrated to new hardware using one of the following documented procedures:
Using catalog backup and recovery to transfer NetBackup catalogs between Windows master servers (TECH77447)
Using catalog backup and recovery to transfer NetBackup catalogs between UNIX or Linux master servers (TECH77448)
 
These procedures require the new Master Server to have the same name as the old Master Server and cannot be used to rename a Master Server.

Also you will want to make sure you follow the General guidelines for support in a virtual environment as mentioned in TECH127089

Please note that Media Manager Storage Unit (Tape) is not supported in VM media servers.
