DUMP vs NDMP vs RESTORE data volumes dont match

Looking like another dodgy feature with netb 7.0.1 but could well exist in earlier versions.

myfiler> date;dump 0f null /vol/data_sys_ds1;date
Tue Nov  9 16:14:06 GMT 2010
DUMP: creating "/vol/data_sys_ds1/../snapshot_for_backup.50" snapshot.
DUMP: Using Full Volume Dump
DUMP: Dumping tape file 1 on null
DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Tue Nov  9 16:14:06 2010.
DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: the epoch.
DUMP: Dumping /vol/data_sys_ds1 to null
DUMP: mapping (Pass I)[regular files]
DUMP: mapping (Pass II)[directories]
DUMP: estimated 38863356 KB.
DUMP: dumping (Pass III) [directories]
DUMP: dumping (Pass IV) [regular files]
DUMP: Tue Nov  9 16:19:18 2010 : We have written 34297473 KB.
DUMP: dumping (Pass V) [ACLs]
DUMP: 38787280 KB
DUMP: DUMP IS DONE
DUMP: Deleting "/vol/data_sys_ds1/../snapshot_for_backup.50" snapshot.
Tue Nov  9 16:20:04 GMT 2010
cottus> df -sh vmware_rhel_sys_ds1
Filesystem                used      saved       %saved
/vol/data_sys_ds1/       24GB       12GB          33%

So thats about 38G of data. I believe 'dump'

If netbackup NDMP backups these same data I get told it backed up

77832192K. Ahem.

Then I look to restore these same data...and that view tells me it backed up 38916117K contradicting the activity monitor. Great!

I'm happy with 38...39G, but the backup job from the jobmonitor is misreporting data volume by a factor of 2. Or is it?

Anyone else observed this, thoughts? B..u...g..., maybe? Surely not.

Jim the tester.

Or "bpimagelist -L". I believe Marianne shows right answer for this issue. Troubleshooting tips: If you would like to check NDMP dump log returned by NDMP host, use "vxlogview -p NB -o ndmp" to get NDMP log message on Unified Logs.
