DataDomain Upgrade

BearBackup
Level 2

Hi All

I am looking to upgrade the DataDomains attached to my netbackup system.

Thinking about disabling jobs running to these devices what would people reccomend? Disabling the policies and SLP secondary actions?

Setting the disk pools to down?

We have other devices not being upgraded at the same time so we do not want to disable all jobs as we would with an NBU upgrade for example.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Going from DD OS 5.7 to 6.1

Master server is at 8.1 .1

Hi @BearBackup

Yes, you need to down disk pool(s) in Netbackup belonging to the device being upgraded.. A data domain upgrade is disruptive.

Some advice:

Have patience - a upgrade/reboot can take up to 45 minutes or more.

A message may appear during boot saying "File system destroyed" - it isn't, just wait.

You should log a preventive support case with Dell EMC

You may need to upgrade the Boost plugin on media server, refer to Dell EMC documentation.

Glad I could help :)

One thing more, Dell EMC also recommend you reboot the data domain first before performing the upgrade,
