Hi,

I recently updated my Hypervisors from ESX 4.1 to ESXi 5.0. Now all my backups are failing and getting the following:

-Error opening the snapshot disks using given transport mode: Status 23
-the backup failed to back up the requested files(6)

My backups settings are as follows:

-Policy for: VMware
-Policy Type: Flashbackup-Windows
-Perform BLIB is ON
-Off-host backup is ON

No changes to the vCenter Server and hosts were made except the ESX 4.1 to ESXi 5.0 upgrade.

Hi

I've seen it before could be a couple of things.

• Try recreating the policy's.
• Clear the temp files(the user that nbu runs under)
  c:\Windows\Temp (if System Logon)
  c:\user\<account>\AppData\Local\Temp
• Make sure the VMKernel interface exists(in vmware) if you are using ndb.

Could you enable the logs under:

<installpath>/netbackup/logs/mkdir

Re-Run the backup and post the output of bpvmutil log

Unfortunately, that solution didn't work my friend :(

I'm using SAN/LUN... dunno but I've changed absolutely nothing on my setup... VM backup was working fine before I updated to ESXi 5.0 :(

Would need to see the logs/bpfis log on the backup host.

I came across similar error once - disable BLIB helped me. I have not had a chance to investigate it further but this could be a quick fix.

Already solved by adding entries of my ESXi hosts into the "hosts config file" of my Master Server. It seems that NBU used hostname resolution instead of the actual IP address in accessing the ESXi servers.

Kudos to the Symantec tech who assisted me.
