Error with restore: WRN - can't create directory: \\?\D:\ (WIN32 21: Unknown error)

Hi,

We recently had a request from a difficult client to get critical data restored from 2005, 

The original master server is still available which still contains all the old backup images, so there is no need to do a phase 1 and phase 2 import,

Im restoring the data to the local Master server as the client server in question is no longer available,

When selecting a single file to be restored the restore completes successfully, however when selecting multiple folders to be restored then

the below error appears in the detail status:

WRN - can't create directory: \\?\D:\ (WIN32 21: Unknown error) 

Environment:

Master Server: 7.1.0.2 (recently upgraded)

Has anyone come accross this before?

What OS on Master ?? i guess it must win 2k8 .... 

if so you need to open BAR GUI by right click & run as administartor and start restoration.

Did you actually change the destination for the restored files/folders for your second (failed) attempt? Just wondering if it is trying to maintain it's original path (D:\ ?? DVD/CD drive?) which doesn't exist (or is a DVD/CD drive) on your Master.

Original master/local master? Two masters or the same entity?

Master & client both Windows?

Hi Yogesh - Master server is still on Windows 2003, this server was initially kept one side for all our legacy restores as it still contains all our old catalog info, so no backups are being run on it, upgraded recently to 7.1.0.2 from 6.5.5 just as a test before i upgraded all our current (Live) Netbackup Master Servers,

Hi Andy - Yup, thats the 1st thing that was done, the source is the original server, the destination is the local Master server.

The restore eventually completed a few minutes ago (Incomplete), status 5 in the detailed status and then with an invalid error number(2826)

The funny thing is that All the data was still restored, every folder and file that was required/selected was

restored to the path specified on the local Master Server.

I have triple checked the data and its exactly the same as that from BAR

It is the original master server, same entity, and yes both are windows servers
