HP EML 245e

Hello,

We are purchasing a new tape library and I was trying to find out if anyone out there has an HP EML e-series 245e tape robot.

I wanted to know if this robot works well with Netbackup, but most importantly, I would like to make sure that I am able to tell this robot how many media access slots (mail slots) I want so that I can vault with the eject option.

Currently our robot only supports 2... which basicaly means none. HP is telling me that this robot will be able to use more, but after selling us the last one I do not trust them. Therefore I was hoping that someone using this robot could let me know if it works well with Netbackup vaulting in a sense that I can eject tapes through a vault job and how many slots I can pre-determine with this unit that will be used specificaly for this operation.

Thank you for any information.

Ira,
You can check the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) for NBU to see if it's happy to use your library:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/280666
Veritas NetBackup (tm) Enterprise Server and NetBackup Server 5.x Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) - includes information for supported drives, libraries, virtual tape devices, robot-types, fibre-channel HBAs, switches, routers/bridges, iSCSI configurations, and encryption devices.

I'll see if I can find the list for 6.0 ...
Try this tech note:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/240456
DOCUMENTATION: A quick reference on how to determine if Veritas NetBackup (tm) supports a specific tape library or device.

Yup, listed below:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/278692
Veritas NetBackup (tm) Enterprise Server and NetBackup Server 6.0 Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) - includes information for supported drives, libraries, virtual tape devices, robot-types, fibre-channel HBAs, switches, routers/bridges, iSCSI configurations, and encryption devices.

Can't hurt to look at competitors. Send Spectralogic your quote from hp, and a list of what you want, and see what they can do.

I am currently in the process of replacing all 40+ of my libraries with Storaetek products. The support is good and so far, I am impressed with the products. The problem I always ran into with HP was if I had a problem, all they would do is send me a new library....sometimes that caused more problems.

I guess I didn't answer your question but at least someone had to hear my opinion.
