If the client service is running, the Process tab within the Windows Task Manager will show bpinetd.exe is running
What in case of unix/linux?

Run ps -ef | grep -i bp* on unix to check
run bpps -x if media server

Not relevent in Unix /Linux.
bpinetd is unique to Windows.

No, I think Nikhil means , what is the equivilent process in Unix.
You will not find bpinetd on unix, it is not there.
On Unix, there is a process called inetd.
This is not a Symantec process, it is an operating system process.
inetd is a process that listens on various ports - from wiki...
"Often called a super-server, inetd listens on designated ports used by Internet services such as FTP, POP3, and telnet. When a TCP packet or UDP packet arrives with a particular destination port number, inetd launches the appropriate server program to handle the connection. For services that are not expected to run with high loads, this method uses memory more efficiently, since the specific servers run only when needed. Furthermore, no network code is required in the application-specific daemons, as inetd hooks the sockets directly to stdin, stdout and stderr of the spawned process. For protocols that have frequent traffic, such as HTTP and POP3, a dedicated server that intercepts the traffic directly may be preferable."
Windows operating system does not have a process like inetd, so symantec produced a similar process and called in bpinetd.
Therefore, the bpinetd process is not needed for Unix, because Unix operating system already has a process that does the same thing (inetd).

so in NBU 6.5,WE HAVE bpinetd for windows and inetd, xinetd for unix.
in NBU 7.1,we have these services as standalone
right?
Installing NB_7.0.1 on Windows introduces bpcd and vnetd as standalone services that no longer need to be started via bpinetd. This is similar to the NB_7.0GA implementation on UNIX where these processes are no longer forked from the inetd or xinetd service.
Following installation of the release update, the services and display names match and are as follows:
bpinetd : NetBackup Legacy Client Service
bpcd : NetBackup Client Service
vnetd : NetBackup Legacy Network Service
Because bpcd is now running standalone, apply to bpcd any logon account settings previously applied to bpinetd (previously named the NetBackup Client Service).

Yes, in 7.x bpcd and vnetd are always running.

Yes, for both Windows and Unix.
