Ignoring a file NBU help!

I am currently using Netbackup 5.1 MP6.
I have an oracle solaris 8 server that I am backing up.  I have set it to back all local drives, and it seems to back up most of the data. However it skips the oradata file that contains the most important data.
I have made sure the server has stopped all oracle programs that might conflict. The policy is correct, and I have looked through permissions on the folder.
When I try to backup just that specific folder, it states that it has completed successfully while backing up only 32 kb of a 160gb file

Does anyone know why it might skip over the folder?

You mean that you are trying to backup the Oracle files directly? if this is the case why u are not using the Oracle agent with RMAN? or u can dump the Oracle DB to a file and then perform a standard backup of that file, but backing up the files directly is a mistake and for restore needs it can take longer and harder to restore your DB's.

hope this help.

As far as I know you should never backup a live database.

I am not sure that you can restore it and make it work (date stamp issues)

you should use Rman to backup to tape...

or

use Rman to backup to disk and then have your script copy that to tape.

Talk to your DBA about backups for a database... and how they can do a restore.
