My Master server and all clients system are windows 2003 Server and using netbackup 6.5. I need to install the netabckup Standard clients on the servers which are behind the firewall,  does anybody knows which are the ports I need to open on the firewall so master server and client can communicate properly.

 I really thing that a best practive would be to put the aplication on the firewall.

but..

13722/tcp open  netbackup
13782/tcp open  netbackup
13783/tcp open  netbackup

Try these ports.

 There are only two ports required for 6.5

From client to server: BPRD, VNETD
From server to client: BPCD, VNETD

Exact port numbers you can always look at your system32\drivers\etc\services on windows or at /etc/services on Unix

The only ports I have opned in my firewall  are (Work for NBU 6.5 only ) :

Port 13724  MASTER -> CLIENT
Port 13724  CLIENT -> MASTER or MEDIA

If connect fails to VNETD, Netbackup tries the old BPCD to VNETD communication.

It's important that the firewall opening allows both side to initiate traffic (bi-directional opening). Opening in one direction and and let the state full firewall do it's job isn't enough.

.... but it may be of interest to some!

VERITAS NetBackup (tm) 6.0 Port Usage Guide for Windows and UNIX Platforms ...

It does say for NB6.0 but is actually linked from Listing of Veritas NetBackup (tm) 6.5 and 6.5.x Manuals and links to the respective TechNotes so must still be accurate.  ;)
