Intermittent down drive issues

Our environment is on NBU 4.5 with 20+ SAN media servers (Solaris) sharing 8 LTO2 drives via SSO.

Certain SAN media servers regularly experience drives going up and down repeatedly. Examining the server messages file shows that there is a Reservation Conflict repeatedly being hit and then cleared.

Anybody have a similar experience or advice on how to go about resolving this?

I had this problem in the Windows world. Simple change to the registry fixes the problem. Basically I removed the OS's query to the tape device for Test Unit Ready. If I was able to mount the device from the OS level then it's ready. I let NBU arbitrate what host get's it when. I assume there is a way to do the same in Solaris.

I have same problem on a customes. I removed all drives and use wizar to add all drives. The problem was resolved.

Interesting, so it was also the exact symptom? Did you manage to find out the root cause of the problem?

Removing all drives and then adding back sounds risky though i have done it once before.
