I have a linux box, running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, but it's only 32-bit. Looking at the OS Compatibility list, it only shows 64-bit OSes. Does this mean I can't backup from my client?

7.x no longer supports 32 bit unix servers.
but you can install 6.xx on your client and have a 7.x master/meida and it will backup.
You just cannot use any of the 7.x extras on that client.

Ok, so install the 6.xx client software on the box, and connect to my 7.1 master/media...
Anyone have an idea where I can get my hands on 6.xx client software? We just recently purchased, at the 7.0 level. Do we have rights to the older versions?

They will have to get you access via file connect to down load the 6.x version.

I've opened a support case with technical support for this issue.
I'm a little leery, as I spoke with Licensing first, and they told me that NBU 7.1 is not backwards compatible with 6.xx. Hopefully, that's an incorrect statement, or at least there's a workaround...

With all due respect - if you get through to a 1st-line support person, you cannot expect a lot of in-depth knowledge....
See 'NetBackup backward compatibility' on page 40 & 41 of NetBackup Release Notes http://http:/www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3643
Please speak to your local reseller - they should be able to supply 6.5 software. If not, please see:

Believe me, I wasn't taking their word as gospel. That's why I went ahead and opened the support ticket. Thanks for your reply, and I've sent an e-mail to our Symantec sales rep for the older version.

just make sure that the verson and patch work for your OS version.
